Jan's Deserts

 



Christmas Cookies: 

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 C. shortening (part butter)
  • 1 C. sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 tsp. lemon flavoring or 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 1/2 C. GOLD MEDAL Flour
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. salt


Directions:

  1. Mix well shortening, sugar, eggs and flavoring.
  2. Measure flour by dip-level-pour method or by sifting
  3. Blend flour, baking powder and salt; stir in
  4. Chill at least 1 hr, heat oven to 400 degF
  5. Roll 1/8" on floured board
  6. Cut with 3" cookie cutter
  7. Place on ungreased baking sheet
  8. Bake 6-8 min; makes about 4 doz.

Did you know:  

This recipe, originally published as "Ethel's Sugar Cookies" in the 1961 Betty Crocker Picture Cook Book, Mom used to perfection to create the best Holiday cookies for family and friends.  She used Christmas cut-outs to form the cookies themselves (i.e. Bell, Santa, Star, Train, Tree) and then topped them with colored icing (red, green, white) which added to the Seasonal presentation.
